| English Boiler has developed a patented product
line of boilers called the "Ds" Design. The distinguishing
characteristic of this boiler is the location of the upper steam drum in
relation to the lower water drum. Unlike the conventional "DR"
type where both drums are vertically aligned over top of each other, in the
"Ds" design boiler the water drum is located in one lower corner and the
steam drum is located in the opposite upper corner. The furnace is
relatively square and the shape factor (h vs w) is usually 1:1.
The
advantage of the "Ds" design boiler is to optimize the heat release in the
furnace without jeopardizing the natural circulation. In comparison to
the "DR" type boiler, the "Ds" design boiler
has higher radiant and furnace heat release rates, equal to or greater total
heating surface; all within a shorter and/or narrower footprint.
Decreasing the length of the boiler does not sacrifice efficiency, but
significantly reduces the cost over the conventional "DR"
type boiler. Presently, English Boiler manufactures "Ds" design
boilers from 10,000 pph to 250,000 pph and pressures up to 1200 psig @900°F.
The "Ds" design boiler is now in use
throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.
